It’s a fine country
I am walking in a crowded mall with a group of friends, thinking happily to myself
Me: You know, I’m having a lot of fun. I’m so happy, I think I could start dancing.
<Several friends shoot nervous looks at each other>
Me <starts kicking and flailing arms in the air>: ha!
Friend 1 <screaming in slow motion>: NOOOOOOOOOOOooooOOOOO!!!
<Friends 1, 2 and 3 suddenly grab my arms and restrain me>
Friend 1: You can’t dance in Singapore! You’ll get fined!
Me: What? Are you serious?
Friend 1: Yes! Serious. Remember yesterday we were walking around Chinatown and we saw the signs for “no dancing?”
Me: Yeah… but I thought it was a joke…
Friend 1: No lah! Not a joke!

I guess gum chewing isn’t the only thing that’s banned in Singapore.
No, I can’t dance, I can’t talk.
The only thing about me is the way I walk.

Hahaha….I suppose I’m either Friend 1 or Friend 2 right?

“I can’t dance, I can’t sing, I’m just standing here selling everything….”
Colin Wong
wow u can’t dance in singapore? i did not know that. if you cross over to johor (malaysia) i bet you can start dancing and people will just assume that you are crazy =p
without licence?
HOLY CRAP!!!
I’ll never understand why humanity has worked so hard to restrain and repress Joy. In America it’s the capitalistic workplace; where they can’t do that, apparantly they make laws. FREAKIN’ HOLY CRAP!
Are you aloud to laugh?
Er, allowed to laugh. Allowed.
Brain-fart.
I bet Disco Stu doesn’t need a license..
wow, crazy. what else isn’t allowed?
That sign really makes me laugh. You’d think the country was run by a bunch of hardcore baptists or something. Just kidding…
RYC: The idol of marriage is a true one! I know going to seminary where most of the people are about 3+ years older then me and mostly all married or in serious relationships it gets me wondering when is it going to be my turn. Yikes! It can be consuming and definitely turn into an idol. John MacArthur just did/is doing a really good series on singleness on his radio program: http://www.oneplace.com you can find it on that site. I guess the mantra be single for a season not a reason is a good one to keep in mind.
Idols, idols, they are everywhere!

wait wait wait wait…….is that for real?
uh… I’m not even sure myself. I have heard different stories from different people. Some people told me that dancing was ok, and that I should go ahead and try it. But then they joked that if I got arrested and went to jail, it would be an excuse to stay in Singapore longer.
My friends took me to one place in the city that was the designated “free zone” where people could dance without getting fined. And it was true! There were a WHOLE BUNCH of teens there break dancing and step dancing, etc. They were there all hours of the day, as far as I could tell, just dancing and hanging out.
From what I gather, the “no dancing” is really meant to be “no dancing for money,” hence the license. People who dance to try to get money will get fined if they have no license to dance. People who dance erratically for fun… well, they might just get told to go home. I dont know. I didn’t dare to try it. =P
that is absolute craziness. that’s too much control by the government for me. i’m all about the anarchy.
Everybody dance now! Dun! Dun, dun-dun, dun! Dun, dun-dun, dun! Dun, dun-dun, everybody dance now!
Hahaha, that’s awesome, is that actually the sign that’s there? Oh, and I’m only taking a Japanese history course, not the language, I don’t think I have the resilience to learn two more languages. As for bursting my bubble, yes, I’m now irrevicably depressed, and I’m going to go sleep for 2 years. Just kidding. I know it’s the most freedom, but I just like to complain when I can.
